Gorgeous 1950s Summer Dress By Blanes

Product Description

A 1950s summer dress by Blanes in a rainbow of colours! Accessorise heaven!

The Fifties saw an explosion of colour in design and fashion and this gorgeous 1950s dress is no exception.  She has little turn-up sleeves with button detail as well as some lovely pleats to the back of the dress.  The dress is partly button-through (5 buttons) with an additional hook and eye fastening at the waist.  The gold-tone metal buttons are tarnished to varying degrees but I think some vintage buttons in a bright colour – with a matching, wide belt – would look fantastic.

The dress has a light, soft underskirt which I think may be made from muslin.

Approx measurements: Bust 32-34″; Waist 24-26″; Hips 34″ Length 43″ Length from collar to waist 15½”; Length from underarm to waist 7½” Similar to a modern UK Size 8 but I would recommend measuring, flat, a dress you already wear to be sure of the size.  A lovely Stardust Years Vintage customer recently modelled this dress and the waist was a little big on her (she’s between a 6 and an 8 with a large cup size).

This beautiful 1950s summer dress by Blanes does have a few issues which I have listed in detail in the condition report below.

Condition report: one tiny hole in the back, above the waistline.  The original belt is missing but if the dress was worn with a wide belt – as the original belt loops suggest – the hole mentioned above would be hidden.  As stated above, the metal buttons are a little tarnished.  The top button looks as if it has been sewn back on in haste as some very thick yarn has been used – looks a little like string!  I haven’t tidied these up in case the new owner would like to change the buttons.  Where the top half of the dress meets the skirt at the waist, it almost looks like there is a small split where the seams met, just where the hook is sewn on but, to the naked eye it doesn’t look like any stitches are missing and both seams are secure.  Again, a belt would cover this but, please email me if you would like me to send a photo so that you can see for yourself.

All of the issues listed above are pretty minor and there’s no doubting that the fabulous Fifties fabric makes this original vintage dress a real head-turner!
