50857 Victorian Mourning Brooch*SOLD*
A Victorian Mourning Brooch.
A beautiful Victorian Mourning Brooch which was worn in honour, and loss, of a loved one who passed away in 1837.
This Victorian Mourning Brooch is very pretty with pearl set spray on black enamel. The centre of one flower is a small stone of some kind.
On the reverse, the brooch is engraved with the details of the lost loved one. I have tried to photograph some of the engraving but I believe it reads: “John Key d 11 Dec 1837 at 35”
Condition report: A true collector of Victorian Mourning Jewellery may consider the condition of this brooch a little worn – particularly to parts of the enamel, perhaps. The pin is also bent but the barrel hinge and C clasp are firmly secure. However, this brooch may be nearly 180 years old so it may be forgiven for the marks of passing time.
I think this Victorian brooch remains a lovely, and very fitting, tribute to Loss and Love – and a true piece of History.
