Late 1940s Suit*SOLD*

Product Description

A gorgeous late 1940s suit, comprising a top and a skirt in pale lilac.

This late 1940s suit is so beautifully tailored. I believe the fabric is linen or a linen mix. The top tapers to the waist with a slight peplum over the hips. The shoulders are padded and there is a centre zip. The zip is metal and can be unzipped so that the top can be placed over the head when putting it on. Two rows of white or off-white buttons run down the length of the front of the jacket. This colour contrast is echoed in the white trim to the short sleeves. There are two fabric loops for the belt which is the suit’s original belt.

The skirt has a front and back pleat.  Both the jacket and skirt are unlined.

Approx: Jacket – Bust: 38-40″; Waist: 32″; Hips: 42″ Length from collar to waist: 15.5″ Length from base of collar to hem: 24″   Skirt – Waist: 30-32″; Hips: 40-42″; Length from top of waistband to hem: 31″ Similar to today’s UK Size 12-14 but please measure (flat) a similar garment that already fits you and which you find comfortable to wear and compare with the measurements above.  Better still, visit us in our shop in Winchester and try her on!

Condition report: There are a few marks on this suit, most noticeably, two greyish marks on the white trim to one sleeve and a yellow mark on the back of the jacket. The belt is worn (particularly on its reverse) and the colour is not as bright as the rest of the suit. This suit has been dry-cleaned but, at over 80 years old, there are going to be some marks that just don’t want to be parted from it!  I  know how they feel.  She really is a gorgeous original vintage piece. Very Forties, very flattering, very Lauren Bacall!
